It's a sign

I didn't get a picture of the one that went up after this one came down, but it was a good one too. "Sign broken. Message inside."

Special Surimi Salad

Here is the very technical recipe for my special surimi salad. It's what I like to have when I feel like cutting back on calories, but can't bring myself to eat lettuce.

Ingredients:
Some Krab
Some Red Onion
Some Black Olives
Some Fresh Tomatoes
Some Frozen Corn
Some Frozen Peas
Some Italian Dressing

What to do:
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl and eat.

Delish! You really could add all sorts of things.

Fur babies - Dixie

I think she may be getting used to the camera!

She is such a sweet dog.

Fur babies - Maya

On February 16, 2003, I wrote a short entry in my journal about the pretty and sweet lost gray tabby cat that no one was looking for. Five years later, look who is still here!

The baptism

It was strange being back in church for such a serious and intimate event. Both mom and baby were baptised in a dark corner of the church behind a large hanging drop cloth--the rest of the altar area was wreck! They are busy constructing a set for the Easter cantata. Immediate family came, along with a few friends. It was very sweet and I'm happy I was invited.

The pictures are okay. A lot of them aren't as sharp as I'd like, and I can't tell if it's because my focus is way off or if it is the shallow depth of field that I need to get used to. The church was A LOT darker than I expected and that was a challenge. Correct white balance is also proving to be tricky for me. But I was able to get a few good shots and that makes me happy. I'm not going to post any here, though, since I didn't ask for permission. Sorry!

In your face

Here is our camera shy dog, Dixie.

Right now, I am getting a lot of noise that isn't very pretty. I guess because of the high ISO?

Test shots

These aren't great pictures, but check out the depth of field! I'm impressed. And these shots were in low lighting indoors with no flash. It will take me a while to get used to a prime lens, but I think I'll be able to get a handful of decent pictures at the baptism. Here's hoping!

This is just stuff on my desk at work. I was trying to test out the new lens on the sly, but the autofocus is pretty noisy and the mirror flap always gives me away.

There are a bunch more that I'll have to sort through later.

New lens

My friend with the new baby has asked me to take pictures at the baptism this week--talk about pressure! I don't have any good lighting equipment for indoor shots, and my kit lens is too slow to use without flash equipment.

After a ton of research I found this fast prime lens and it sounds too good to be true at $110. The problem is no local stores have it in stock! GRRR! I ordered it from B&H yesterday, and paid extra for overnight shipping, so it should be on my camera tomorrow afternoon for some fast practice before the baptism on Wednesday.

It's going to be a long, long time

Mom and I were looking forward to seeing Elton John tonight, but he postponed the concert! The rumor is he has kidney stones. Ouch! He's in town right now, but we're going to have to wait SIX long weeks before we see him. This will be my first concert in many, many years, and it's Elton! I'm pretty excited.

Finalii got one!

Ken finally got his birthday present today! It was only 8 months late. We promptly went out and bought another WiiMote and several games and then spent the rest of the day bowling, playing tennis, and golfing.

Sad news

Unfortunately, Ck's kidney values have gone back up--after just two days of being off IV fluids. That means his condition is most likely chronic and terminal. I'm trying to give him lots of attention and make him happy.

We are continuing his antibiotic, and I requested injections instead of pills. He hates pills. I didn't expect the injections to be that difficult, since I give insulin shots twice daily with no trouble at all, but I freaked out a little bit when I saw the syringes. The needles are 18 gauge, and referred to as "kitty harpoons." Ack!
