All Greek to me

Vickie and I went out for a Greek lunch at Cafe 22 not too long ago and it was delicious! I was all set to order a gyro, but changed my mind when I saw the pastitsio.

The pinkish blob is rosemary mashed potatoes. I know there is a purple potato, but is there a pink potato, too?

New kicks

They're so cute! And much different than my usual flip flops and ballet flats.

It's cold outside

Finished this scarf just in time; the temperature dropped from a balmy 80 degrees to an arctic 40. It went to a coworker who loves scarves and seemed thrilled to have a new one. The pattern is the Filippi Scarf from 101 One-Skein Wonders, and is made in a simple one by one rib with ruffled edges. My preference is for longer scarves, so I used more than one skein of Jo-Ann Sensations Angel Hair yarn.

This yarn is incredibly soft and slippery on the needles. Frogging is difficult because the little hairs tangle together, so it's a perfect yarn for quick and easy projects.

The pattern called for a k2tog bind off, a new one for me. I searched around and found several different directions and decided on the easiest one. It created a very loose end ruffle, which is sort of the effect I was going for, but I am not sure if the instructions in the book would have resulted in a tighter, better looking ruffle.

Girls day out

Took a much needed day off from work on Friday. I was pretty much planning on wasting the entire day by doing nothing at all, but ended up getting a pedicure, learning some Vietnamese, shopping for glasses, and watching an awful show about a possessed paranormal investigator.

It's been a long time since mom and I have been able to spend a day together. Can you believe we didn't bicker even once?!

This was mom's first pedicure ever! I am not sure what she enjoyed most: the massaging chair, the lam lams, or the fab feet afterwards. My toes were supposed to be a more festive red but turned out sort of bright pink. So, here we are showing off our pretty tootsies by wearing sandals in the middle of December; sadly, our fall weather has been mostly summery.

Knits galore

Great find at the flea market (thanks, Mom!)--knitting and felting books for just $2 each!

Looks like I have a lot of work to do. So far I've made a scarf from the One Skein Wonders book. There is at least one project in each book that I'd like to finish. Plenty of yarn, not enough time!

Number two

The second knitted kitty I've made from the geobabe pattern. The first was tiny and gray and had a very interesting embroidered face.

Kitty number one is named Tipsy and was given to a friend for her 21st birthday. Kitty number two is already in his new home with Tipsy, but he doesn't have a name yet. I'm thinking Rocky since he needs to be strong and kick some ass. Eye of the Tiger can be his theme song!

Rocky and Tipsy sound like a cute pair.

Belated wish

Well, I was a day late baking sweets for a special someone's birthday, but I had a good reason--making sure we got to the theater early enough to get good seats to see Harry Potter on opening day.

Movie was fun. Cupcakes are delish. Unfortunately, today I ate three and also skipped the usual Saturday morning workout.
