It's going to be a long, long time

Mom and I were looking forward to seeing Elton John tonight, but he postponed the concert! The rumor is he has kidney stones. Ouch! He's in town right now, but we're going to have to wait SIX long weeks before we see him. This will be my first concert in many, many years, and it's Elton! I'm pretty excited.

Finalii got one!

Ken finally got his birthday present today! It was only 8 months late. We promptly went out and bought another WiiMote and several games and then spent the rest of the day bowling, playing tennis, and golfing.

Sad news

Unfortunately, Ck's kidney values have gone back up--after just two days of being off IV fluids. That means his condition is most likely chronic and terminal. I'm trying to give him lots of attention and make him happy.

We are continuing his antibiotic, and I requested injections instead of pills. He hates pills. I didn't expect the injections to be that difficult, since I give insulin shots twice daily with no trouble at all, but I freaked out a little bit when I saw the syringes. The needles are 18 gauge, and referred to as "kitty harpoons." Ack!

It's been a long week

Ck is home after a week of intensive care at the vet clinic. As I suspected, his kidneys are failing. His bloodwork and urinalysis showed highly elevated kidney values, so on Monday the vet called me and said he felt the situation was critical.

He got IV fluids 24/7 and they started him on a new diet--strictly kidney-friendly prescription food. He is happy to be home, and I hate, hate, hate that I have to take him back after the weekend. The vet is hoping this is acute kidney failure, due to an infection or something, and not chronic renal failure, which is terminal. So, we'll test his blood and urine again next week, and have a better idea.

My baby

Whenever he gets sick, I take nearly a million pictures of him because I'm so scared he'll be gone forever and I can't stand the thought of never seeing him again. He spent the day at the vet yesterday, and now we are just waiting on his test results. I'm really worried about his kidney function. We'll know more Monday.

Hot Glass, Cold Beer

Ken and I went to Hot Glass, Cold Beer at the Belmont Arts Center this past Friday and picked up these cool hand blown glasses, which we were then able to fill with beer:

They hold an awful lot of beer, way too much for me. Someone else said to me later, "Well, you don't have to fill it all the way up!" Of course, makes sense now.

Later on in the night a band was schedule to play, but we didn't stay for that. We just walked around and watched artists at the different stations--pottery, glass blowing, and bead making. One artist was selling her beads as she made them and I felt compelled to buy a heart bead as a souvenir, since Valentine's Day just passed.

It was a fun night!

Hot Cross Slouch Beret

I finished the Hot Cross Slouch Beret from the Interweave Crochet Winter 2007 magazine at the end of January. Technically, it's not finished since it still needs a button sewn on the back, but it's wearable!

This is my second finished project of 2008--I also knitted Knitty's Calorimetry in this same yarn (Caron Simply Soft Heather, Deep Teal). But that one also needs a button. Next up, a project without buttons!
